Special Request for information.
We were approached by a Detective from Baltimore County, MD recently.
He is asking for help in a case involving a Hayfield Student.
The information below is what is known so far. Please contact Detective Batagglia if you have any information.
On Sunday, September 12, 1976 at approximately 10:20 am, a passing motorist observed the body of a young female lying near an unused maintenance road to Lorraine Cemetery in Woodlawn, MD. Baltimore County Police were summoned and responded to investigate.
Several witnesses had driven by the location where the victim was found at 6:30 AM and again at 9:00 AM. They did not observe the body on the ground at those times. At 9:20 AM, another witness passed by the location on her way to church and observed a clean and shiny, full size panel type van (no side windows) parked in the area where the victim was recovered. The van was possibly a Ford Econoline. At 10:10 AM, another passing motorist observed the victim and contacted 911. Therefore, it is believed that the victim was dumped at the location and that the van was the method used to transport the victim there.
An autopsy was performed on the victim and her cause of death was determined to be asphyxia and the manner of death was determined to be homicide.
Extensive efforts have been made since 1976 to identify the victim. In August of 2021, the victim was positively identified as Margaret Fetterolf. Margaret attended Hayfield Secondary School from approximately 1971 through 1975. The Baltimore County Police Department is looking for information from anyone that knew Margaret or could assist in identifying the suspect(s) responsible.
